We love easy-access waterfalls, and this one is no exception.
Buttermilk Falls is a picturesque waterfall that's easily accessible from Route 28N in the town of Long Lake.
Not to be confused with Buttermilk Falls in the Finger Lakes, THIS Buttermilk Falls drops approximately 50 feet (15 meters) over a series of rocky ledges into the Raquette River. A well maintained trail takes you straight from the parking area to the base of the falls.
One of the reasons Buttermilk Falls is popular is because it's so easy to get to. For that reason, you probably won't be the only person there (especially in the summer), but there's generally enough room to spread out.
There are NO lifeguards on duty, so swimming is at your own risk.
This is a natural area, so please remember to Leave No Trace by packing out all of your trash and leaving things exactly as you found them. It's essential to respect the natural environment and follow any guidelines or regulations in place to preserve the area's beauty for future visitors.
