You can usually find some great lupins growing along Godley Peaks Road, which is the road you take to get to Lake Alexandrina. There's a small informal carpark here that offers an excellent view of Lake Tekapo. Using the lupins in the front of your picture creates a stunning photograph! Also, keep an eye out for these flowers blooming in the nearby paddocks. The lighting is absolutely perfect in the late afternoon or evening when the sun catches the mountain range. Bring a wide-angle to capture the whole scene.
