Tapotupotu Bay is one of New Zealand’s northernmost campsites and is the perfect place to get off the grid and wake up to the sound of waves crashing on the shore. The beach is right on your doorstep, and there’s a nearby lagoon perfect for swimming or kayaking.
Tapotupotu Bay is simple and unspoilt. Cape Reinga (Te Rerenga Wairua) is just a 5-minute drive from here, but if you love hiking, take the 3-hour walking track instead. It’s a bit steep and challenging in places, but the views along the coastline are unreal.
Facilities: There are 45 unpowered sites and basic facilities, but no hot showers or flushing toilets. However, what it lacks in luxury, it more than makes up for with its location.
Cost: It's just $15 per person per night!
Note: The campsite gets very busy during summer, so I’d recommend booking your site ahead of time if you can.
