The Matterhorn Museum is the perfect place to explore the history and culture of this charming alpine town. Here, you'll be transported back in time to the golden age of mountaineering in Zermatt. The exhibits are filled with all sorts of artifacts, from old climbing gear to vintage photographs of brave mountaineers who dared to conquer the mighty Matterhorn. You'll even get to see the famous broken rope that led to the tragic accident on the mountain in 1865.

There is also a replica village at the lower deck, where you'll get to meet some of the colorful characters who lived in Zermatt in the past, from the first settlers to the brave guides who led climbers up the mountain.

From now till summer 2024, there is also a special exhibition dedicated to the Gornergrat Railway, in celebration of its 125th anniversary. There are various stations throughout the exhibition, bringing visitors on an exciting journey into the past of the Gornergrat Railway and how it has evolved over the century.

I don't necessarily think this museum is a must-visit in Zermatt, but if you happen to have some free time and also would like to delve a little bit more into the history of the village then it would be worth a visit (psss if you have the Swiss Travel Pass it's free so why not...!)

The ticket price is 12 CHF for adults and 5 CHF for kids from 10 to 16 years of age. Children up to 9 years of age travel for free.
