Morteratsch Glacier is nestled in the Bernina Range of the Bündner Alps. It gets its name from the Romansh phrase "Vadret da Morteratsch" and is one of the largest glaciers by area in the Eastern Alps. Its accumulation zone ranges between several peaks in the Alps, and it drains into the Ova da Morteratsch, eventually flowing into the Danube river. The hike starts in Morteratsch station of the Bernina railway, classified as challenging, 12.7km circular with 650m elevation gain, around 4h31min to complete.
