Gamla fjósið, also known as the Old Cowhouse, is a cozy family-run restaurant located on the Hvassafell farm in South Iceland. Nestled beneath the stunning Steinafjall mountain and the famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier, this unique eatery offers a delicious menu featuring ingredients sourced from the farm itself. They offer a lot of classic Icelandic dishes like lamb soup. Definitely one of my favourites in the area.

  • What it is: A family-run farm restaurant on the south coast.

  • Best season / time of day: They tend to be closed during winter but please check Google Maps and/or their website to be sure.
