Why Stay in a Mountain Hut?

Staying in a mountain hut is one of the best value experiences in Switzerland. Compared to hotels, huts offer an amazing price-to-experience ratio — in most places, you can stay for under 100 CHF, and the price often includes both dinner and breakfast.

Many huts are run by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) and are located in spectacular, hard-to-reach places you simply can’t experience on a day hike. And mostly won't be as crowded as places that are easily reachable. SAC huts can be booked directly through the SAC website, and they range from simple and rustic to surprisingly comfortable. They sometimes have rooms for two people and sometimes only dorms. But for a one night stay it is totally enough.

I personally feel like everyone that loves hiking should include a hut hike in their Switzerland trip. Some of my most stunning travel moments in Switzerland came from two-day hikes with an overnight hut stay. Watching the sun set behind the peaks, waking up to sunrise high in the mountains, and meeting new people at the dinner table.
