Mýrdalsjökull is an ice cap sitting on top of the Katla volcano in southern Iceland. It's sandwiched between the town of Vík í Mýrdal and the smaller Eyjafjallajökull glacier, with the Fimmvörðuháls pass in between. The volcano erupts every few decades, with the last one happening in 1918. Scientists keep a close eye on it, especially after the nearby Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010. The glacier is a major natural hazard area in Iceland due to potential glacial floods and volcanic activity.
