šŸŽ’ Packing for the Rockies does not need to be complicated, but being under-prepared is one of the easiest mistakes to make.

Essentials I always recommend

  • Most importantly - bear spray!

  • Sturdy hiking shoes or boots with good grip

  • Layers, even on short hikes

  • Waterproof or windproof outer layer

  • Water and snacks

  • Small backpack

  • Sunscreen and sunglasses

  • Small first aid kit

  • Headlamp or flashlight just in case

  • Map, GPS, or downloaded offline phone map

In colder months

If you’re visiting in winter, or even shoulder season, I’d also consider:

  • toque (warm hat)

  • warmer gloves

  • an extra dry layer

  • microspikes/traction aids

  • if you have a flask/thermos - fill it up with tea, coffee, or warm water. Nothing better than a warm drink in the deep of winter!

Tips from Dev

A lot of people assume an easy trail means no real preparation. That’s the wrong mindset in the mountains. Even a short hike deserves:

  • decent footwear

  • water

  • layers

  • basic safety awareness

āœ… Better slightly over-prepared than under-prepared. Every time.
