Description of this place: The Laurisilva Forest is an ancient, subtropical rainforest, a relic of a type of forest that once covered much of Southern Europe. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, it's the largest surviving area of primary laurel forest in the world. Found mainly on the north side of Madeira, its dense, misty environment is home to unique flora and fauna, including endemic species. Exploring its winding trails, like those along the levadas, offers an immersive experience into a truly primeval and magical landscape, essential for understanding Madeira's natural heritage.
