Piazza San Francesco in Bologna is home to the historic Basilica of Saint Francis, a Roman Catholic church dating back to the 13th century. Originally founded by the Franciscan friars, this basilica has a mix of Romanesque and French Gothic architecture that makes it stand out. Over the years, it has seen its fair share of ups and downs, from being desecrated during the French Revolution to being restored to its former glory in the late 19th century. Today, it remains a significant landmark in Bologna, attracting visitors with its rich history and stunning design. If you happen to visit in the evening, you may spot many students partying there with live music as the square is surrounded with tons of bars!
