As you walk in the direction of the city center, you can’t help but notice a very unique-looking portico on your left. Not only it is one of the oldest porticoes in the city, it is also the tallest one. Don’t be surprised if you see lots of people standing beneath with their heads turned up - join them, as there’s something you might want to look for yourselves! The portico is also home to the famous “Le Tre Frecce” - three arrows, hanging from the ceiling. Nobody actually knows how or why they ended up there, causing numerous legends about their origin. One of the legends tells the story of a noblewoman accused of adultery and thus condemned to be shot by the three archers. However, at the moment of her execution, she managed to drop all her clothes and the stunned archers missed their shots. Another legend originated in the 19th century, telling a story of a group of students who (apparently during a wild night out) decided to mess with the restoration works that were going on in Palazzo Isolani, to which the portico belongs. Personally, I’d lean more towards the second legend, but you choose what to believe. Today finding the three arrows can become another funny quest, as they’re not found easily, due to the portico’s height!
