Great 13.2 km round trip hike that leads to a stunning viewpoint looking over the Barrier Lake and surrounding mountains as well as the prairies - hence the name Prairie View Trail.

The trail is very accessible year round and has a great effort to reward ratio. We'd even say it's one of the best Kananaskis hikes to do in the winter or in early hiking season as it's not located in avalanche terrain.

PS: Don’t be surprised if you also hear the names Yates Mountain or Barrier Lake Fire Lookout. Those are the two names for the same viewpoint on top of Yates Moutain that you can reach if you decide to extend the Prairie View Trail by another 15 minutes.
