Babinda Boulders is one of FNQ’s most iconic swimming spots, situated at the base of Mount Bartle Frere, Australia’s highest peak. The pools are crystal-clear, winding between massive granite boulders, and fed by cascading rivers and waterfalls. It’s a perfect spot to cool off on a hot day, but the currents can be strong, and tragically, several lives have been lost here over the years, so caution is always needed.

The site also holds deep Indigenous significance for the local Yidinji people, who regard the boulders and surrounding area as sacred. The stories passed down through generations speak of spirits and the powerful forces of nature that inhabit the land, adding a layer of cultural respect to the natural beauty.
