Ormiston Gorge is a stunning natural feature in Tjoritja/West MacDonnell National Park. This sacred site, surrounded by towering red quartzite cliffs and a near-permanent waterhole fed by Ormiston Creek, is a highlight for hikers, swimmers, and nature enthusiasts.

There are two main hikes:

Ormiston Pound Walk (Loop)

  • Distance/Time: 8.5 km loop, ~3-4 hours.

and

Ghost Gum Walk (Short Option)

  • Distance/Time: 1.2 km return, ~30-45 minutes.

We were short on time so we just completed the Ghost Gum Walk and were still blown away by the beauty of this place!

It gets quite hot here so make sure to start your hike just after sunrise!

There is also a campground at the hike:

$10/adult/night, $5/child

Facilities include toilet, hot showers and fire pits.
