The historic center, full of buildings, can be easily walked around and getting lost in the streets is definitely a nice way to spend a day. I must admit that Palma de Mallorca was a pleasant surprise! I had no idea how beautiful and quaint it was, so I highly recommend that you dedicate at least one day to visit it. Okay, I know I'm a sucker for the style of Spanish burgs. The buildings have an Art Nouveau style, but at the same time they are mixed with Gothic architecture. Nightlife happens at the pasèo maritimo and in the Santa Catalina neighborhood.

Devo amettere che Palma di Maiorca è stata una piacevole sorpresa! Non avevo idea di quanto fosse bella e caratteristica, quindi ti consiglio vivamente di dedicare almeno un giorno a visitarla. Okay, so di avere un debole per lo stile dei borghetti spagnoli. Gli edifici hanno uno stile liberty, ma allo stesso tempo si mischiano con l'architettura gotica. La vita notturna avviene al pasèo maritimo e nel quartiere di Santa Catalina.

Go down the steps in front of the Cathedral square and reach the Parc de la Mar, literally the “Sea Park” for a picturesque walk around the lagoon. They have a market in the afternoon, which is interesting.

It is a large arch that recalls the Arab past of the city. The Arch of sa Drassana was once the entrance from the sea to the Arab palace and the first shipyards, when the city’s river flowed along the current Passeig d'es Born.

About the cathedral...The Cathedral of Santa Maria is affectionately called La Seu. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, it has a special feature: it is a cathedral literally built on the sea. What? How so?

It was built a few steps from the sea. Then, in the 1970s, the sea was “pushed away” with the construction of the promenade, but the image of the cathedral reflected in the water was preserved, thanks to the construction of the beautiful Parc de la Mar and its pond. Unfortunately seen only from the outside at sunset, it deserves. I know there are light games inside. One more chance to return there.

Venne costruita a pochi passi dal mare. Negli anni ’70, poi, il mare venne “allontanato” con la costruzione del lungomare, ma l’immagine della cattedrale che si specchia sull’acqua è stata conservata, grazie alla costruzione del bellissimo Parc de la Mar e del suo laghetto. Purtroppo vista solo dall'esterna al tramonto, merita. So che al suo interno ci sono giochi di luce. Un'occasione in più per tornarci.

This garden, crossed for its length by a fountain, has an evident Arab touch. From the two bridges that overlook the gardens you can take, especially at sunset, beautiful photographs!

It looks like a church but it is not. It is the old Lonja de Palma, the city's Catalan Gothic masterpiece designed by Guillem Sagrera. Formerly used as the site of Palma's maritime market, the Lonja (or Llotja in Catalan) is accessible free of charge. Inside, one is enraptured by the architectural perfection of the arches that make up its structure and the helicoidal columns that create a harmonious sense of movement. Surrounding the Lonja, moreover, is one of Palma's liveliest neighborhoods, with plenty of clubs and art galleries. It is very similar to the one in Valencia, in a smaller version.

It is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Palma. Santa Catalina is one of the most distinctive and dynamic neighborhoods in Palma de Mallorca. Located on the side of the Paseo Maritimo (over the La Riera bridge), it mixes the traditional spirit of bars and restaurants with the avant-garde atmosphere of stores. Very special is a mural depicting the history of the neighborhood and a fascinating windmill in the old fishing village of Es Jonquet, within the Santa Catalina district. Not to be missed is the Mercat de Santa Catalina.

The Ajuntament de Palma, also known as the City Council of Palma. Visited on the 12th of September in occasion of the holiday "Diada de Mallorca", a very special holiday felt by the Majorcans, reason for which there has been very little publicity around Palma. Inside there is also a really nice library.

When is the Diada de Mallorca? It seems a simple question, but many Majorcans may not know the answer. Traditionally, the Diada was celebrated on 31 December, but recently the new government has moved the celebration to 12 September.

Visitato il 12 Settembre in occasione della festività " Diada de Mallorca", una festa molto particolare sentita dai Maiorchini, motivo per la quale c'è stata pochissima pubblicità in giro per Palma. All'interno c'è anche una biblioteca davvero bella.

It is a tree with a rich history. It was donated by a finca years ago and brought here. About his age there are different opinions that vary between 500 and 1000 years! Its impressive size and age make it an extraordinary natural landmark.

We're talking about one of the most curious squares in Palma, namely Plaza del Ayuntamiento, since it houses the city hall building. There are many bars and restaurants, but long ago, the atmosphere was not so good. in fact, the terrible Inquisition was there.

On the door of the Ayuntamiento, you can see a lizard and a snail. Walking around the thousand-year-old olive tree you should be able to make out the face of an old lady.

Little curiosity: there is a bench called: Banco de Los Vagos or Banco del “If It Were Not.” The reason is peculiar because in the past (but also today) on that bench sat people who had nothing to do all day and so when they were asked by people why they did not go to work, they would answer, “if it were not that I have a bad back.”

🇮🇹 Stiamo parlando di una delle piazze più curiosi di Palma, ovvero Plaza del Ayuntamiento, dato che ospita il palazzo del municipio. Ci sono tanti bar e ristoranti, ma tanto tempo fà, l'atmosfera non era poi così bella. infatti si trovava la terribile Inquisizione.

Sulla porta dell'Ayuntamiento, puoi vedere una lucertola e una lumaca. Camminando attorno all'ulivo millenario dovresti poter scorgere la faccia di un'anziana signora.

Piccola curiosità: c'è una panchina chiamata: Banco de Los Vagos o Banco del "Se non fosse". Il motivo è particolare perché in passato (ma anche oggi) su quella panchina sedevano le persone che non avevano nulla da fare tutto il giorno e quindi quando venivano interpellati dalla gente sul perché non andavano a lavoro, loro rispondevano: "se non fosse che ho il mal di schiena".

It is an indoor market (like the one in Barcelona, to be sure), divided into two macro-areas: one dedicated to the land, with fruit and vegetable shops, bakeries and butchers, and another dedicated to the sea, with a wide range of banks populated by fresh fish and seafood of all kinds. Know that the Market of Olivar, more than a place where "go shopping" is a place to live, an experience. In fact, there are the magical tapas bars where I sat at the bar to taste local products. It is located a few steps from Calle San Miguel, the main shopping street of Palma, not far from Plaza Mayor and is open from Monday to Saturday, from 6 to 14.

Sappi che il Mercato del Olivar, più che un posto dove banalmente “andar a fare la spesa”, è un luogo da vivere, un’esperienza. Infatti, ci sono i magici tapas bar dove mi sono seduto al bancone per gustarmi prodotti locali. Si trova a due passi da Calle San Miguel, la principale via dello shopping di Palma, non lontana da Plaza Mayor ed è aperto da lunedì a sabato, dalle 6 alle 14.

🇮🇹 Soffermati ad osservare i dettagli degli edifici di Palma, in particolare nelle decorazioni. Sono i cosiddetti edifici modernisti, che, se hai già visitato la Barcelona di Gaudì, ti ricorderanno qualcosa… Qualcosa di veramente incredibile: linee curve, decorazioni, piastrelle e vetri colorati. Questi alcuni degli elementi del modernismo catalano, con cui sono stati progettati edifici come Can Forteza Rey.

Almost every city has one, that venerable, ancient culinary place that exists for centuries and boasts a long list of famous customers, past and present. In the case of Mallorca, it is C'an Joan de S'Aigo, founded in 1700 and attended by the artist Joan Miró. According to legend, the eponymous founder of the bar opened it for the first time to sell ice cream, the first ever in Majorca. Over the centuries, the bar has expanded its selection and has become famous especially for its ensaimada. Ensaimada is a typical Majorcan delicacy, a must-try during your stay on the island and a souvenir to buy and bring to friends. I could see that the bar is frequented by tourists but also locals.

I enjoyed the ensaimada and a coffee near a wall studded with beautiful blue and white ceramic tiles, which proudly showed the name and year of birth of this Majorcan institution. The atmosphere is very traditional here, with furniture and polished wood finishes, glass chandeliers. This place is a must-see, a delicious taste of Majorcan history and culture.

🇮🇹 Quasi ogni città ne ha uno, quel venerabile, antico locale culinario che esiste da secoli e vanta una lunga lista di clienti famosi, passati e presenti. Nel caso di Maiorca, si tratta di C'an Joan de S'Aigo, fondato nel 1700 e frequentato dall'artista Joan Miró. Secondo la leggenda, il fondatore omonimo del bar lo aprì per la prima volta per vendere gelato, il primo in assoluto a Maiorca. Nel corso dei secoli, il bar ha ampliato la sua selezione ed è diventato famoso soprattutto per la sua ensaimada. L'ensaimada è una prelibatezza tipicamente maiorchina, un must da provare durante il tuo soggiorno sull'isola e un souvenir da acquistare assolutamente da portare agli amici. Ho potuto notare che il bar è frequentato da turisti ma anche gente del posto.

Mi sono goduto l'ensaimada e un caffè vicino a una parete tempestata di bellissime piastrelle di ceramica blu e bianche, che mostravano con orgoglio il nome e l'anno di nascita di questa istituzione maiorchina. L'atmosfera è molto tradizionale qui, con mobili e finiture in legno lucido, lampadari in vetro. Questo posto è una tappa obbligata, un delizioso assaggio della storia e della cultura maiorchina.

It's Palma's central square, somewhat reminiscent of Madrid's Plaza Mayor, in miniature. Inside there are lots of bars, and it is a real landmark in Palma because on one side is the shopping street, while on the other side you enter onto Calle Colón, the gateway to the most important monuments.

All'interno ci sono tantissime bar, ed è un vero e proprio punto di riferimento a Palma perché da un lato c'è la via dello shopping, mentre dall’altra si entra su Calle Colón, porta d’accesso ai monumenti più importanti.

The best coffee bar in Palma. Why? The friendliness of the baristas and the relaxed atmosphere make the Mistral Coffee House a must for coffee lovers looking for a quiet meeting place. Only premium coffee specials, raw materials from selected coffee plantations around the world. I chose the Batch brew, the classic Croissant, Tomato and olive oil on toasted yeast with fresh rosemary and sesame seeds. The food is delicious and special. It’s also gluten-free. I can’t wait to go back!

La cordialità dei baristi e l'atmosfera rilassata fanno del Mistral Coffee House una meta obbligata per gli amanti del caffè in cerca di un luogo di ritrovo tranquillo. Solo caffè speciali di prima qualità, materie prime provenienti da piantagioni di caffè selezionate in tutto il mondo. Ho scelto il Batch brew, il classico Croissant, Pomodoro e olio d'oliva su lievito madre tostato con rosmarino fresco e semi di sesamo. Confermo, il cibo è altrettanto delizioso e particolare. E' anche Gluten Free. Non vedo l'ora di tornarci!
