Useful tips for Majorca 🇮🇹 Consigli utili per Maiorca

• Majorca is always an island, so it is subject to the winds and it is useless to pre-determine which beaches to see several days or even weeks in advance. If you want to find heavenly beaches from emerald green to turquoise, better check the forecast and winds at least the day before.

• If you are looking for some relaxation better avoid Magaluf: it is famous for its streets full of clubs and discos.

• In fact, the island is quite large and distances are important, so better to rent a car and avoid a 125: there is the highway and to go from one side of the island to the other you can take about 1h30 (80km).

• And although Mallorca might seem relatively small, driving around it can take longer than you expect. The western part of the island is covered with mountains that provide wonderful views, but also with many winding roads and hairpin bends.

• The airport is huge and crowded (among the busiest in Spain) so arrive early: we almost missed our flight.

• Choose the place to sleep based on the right destination for you: this is the most valuable one because yes, the island is big and has so many facets!

• Gasoline: You fill up first and then go into the store to pay

I'll list here the things I think are essentials to pack or backpack and buy in Mallorca:

• Cliff shoes: to get on and off without cutting your feet are essential.

• Mask: you can't not snorkel in such beautiful coastlines!

• Power banks-Google Maps will become your most used app, perhaps more than Instagram, so absolutely essential to have one in your bag! In so many coves it doesn't pick up the line!

• Camera: the beaches are beautiful and worth taking pictures of.

• Umbrellas and sunbeds: no reservations, no entrance fees and other things we are used to in Italy. You simply get them by the old “sit down and someone will come and ask you to pay” method.

• Packed lunches: many coves are wild, so best to do your shopping at the supermarket (I have also included, “Where to shop: different types of supermarkets in another ‘TRAVEL TIPS’ module)

• ELECTRICITY AND ELECTRICAL OUTLETS IN MAJORCA

• Electricity is the same as in Italy of 220 volts, so you don't need to bring adapters (I don't know in small, older facilities).

• Maiorca è sempre un’isola, quindi soggetta ai venti ed è inutile prefissare quali spiagge vedere diversi giorni o addirittura settimane prima. Se vuoi trovare delle spiagge paradisiache dal colore verde smeraldo al turchese, meglio controllare le previsioni e i venti almeno il giorno prima.

• Se cerchi un po’ di relax meglio evitare Magaluf: è famosa per le sue vie ricche di locali e discoteche.

• L’isola infatti è abbastanza grande e le distanze sono importanti, quindi meglio noleggiare l’auto ed evitare un 125: c’è l’autostrada e per passare da una parte all’altra dell’isola puoi impiegare circa 1h30 (80km). E anche se Maiorca potrebbe sembrare relativamente piccola, guidarci intorno può richiedere più tempo di quanto ci si aspetti. La parte occidentale dell'isola è ricoperta di montagne che regalano viste meravigliose, ma anche di molte strade tortuose e tornanti.

• L’aeroporto è grandissima e affollato (tra i più trafficati della Spagna) quindi arriva con largo anticipo: quasi stavamo per perdere il volo.

• Scegli il posto in cui dormire in base alla destinazione giusta per te: questo è quello più prezioso perché si, l’isola è grande e presenta tante sfaccettature!

• Benzina o Gasolina: Prima si fa rifornimento e poi si entra nel negozio per pagare

Ti elenco qui le cose che secondo me sono indispensabili, da mettere in valigia o zaino e da comprare a Maiorca:

• Scarpe da scoglio: per salire e scendere senza tagliarsi i piedi sono fondamentali.

• Maschera: non puoi non fare snorkeling in coste così belle!

• Power banks – Google Maps diventerà la tua app più usata, forse più di Instagram, quindi assolutamente fondamentale averne una in borsa! In tante cale non prende la linea!

• Fotocamera: le spiagge sono bellissime e meritano di essere immortalate.

• Ombrelloni e lettini: nessuna prenotazione, nessun ticket di accesso e altre cose a cui siamo abituati in Italia. Semplicemente si ottengono con il vecchio metodo del “siediti e qualcuno verrà a chiederti di pagare”.

• Pranzi al sacco: tante cale sono selvagge, quindi meglio fare la spesa al supermercato (ho inserito anche: "Dove fare la spesa: diversi tipi di supermercati in un altro modulo "TRAVEL TIPS")

• CORRENTE E PRESE ELETTRICHE A MAIORCA

• La corrente elettrica è come in Italia di 220 volt, quindi non è necessario portarti degli adattatori (non saprei nelle strutture piccole e datate).
