Is Jordan safe? 🇮🇹 La Giordania é sicura?

Jordan is the Switzerland of the Middle East. Yet, while I was traveling, I received several messages from people who asked me if it was safe, as I had organized a trip alone and hoped to go too, sooner or later.

Jordan is safe, of course, and obviously you have to have certain precautions. Tourists are welcome and welcomed with warmth. It is a stable nation, whose economy is based exclusively on tourism (it has no raw materials and does not have oil, like its neighbors).

What is it that gives stability to the country?

The King, Abdullah II of Jordan (who in the West we know as the husband of Rania, the beautiful icon Queen of style) is adored by his people.  The reasons are many, but all those I spoke with confirmed the same thing: the King is a good person. The Jordanian king, together with his queen and four children, have moved their residence to a very poor part of Amman. Rania and her daughters have a license, they are graduates and they lead a model of modern Middle Eastern woman but at the same time devout and religious. Is there poverty in Jordan? Yes, of course. The first rule of a good Muslim is to give hospitality to all including the needy.

The Middle East situation

Jordan as you know is already in the center of a dramatic situation. It borders with Syria, Iraq, Israel and Saudi Arabia. How does it not be dangerous? Once again, the King comes to our rescue. 

After the Israeli seizure of West Bank territories, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled to Jordan in search of refuge.

During the war in Iraq: thousands of Iraqis fleeing from the war, massed at the borders, looking for a way to escape. The king opened the borders, giving them shelter.

War in Syria: over a million women and children have fled across the border from ISIS, aided by Jordanian soldiers.

Tourist police

If you have any problems, do not hesitate to contact the tourist police. 

It is present everywhere (in Petra there are at least three areas and rides along the site) and quickly intervenes. I am there to help you.

A treat for you: the singing of the Muezzin calling to the Islamic prayer was a really exciting moment, so if you happen to be on top in the hours when the song is going to resonate (which I remind you happens 5 times a day, ie at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset and evening), it might be worth to linger a few more minutes and enjoy the moment.

🇮🇹 La Giordania è la Svizzera del Medio Oriente. Eppure, mentre ero in viaggio, mi sono arrivati diversi messaggi di persone che mi chiedevano se fosse sicura, come avevo fatto a organizzare un viaggio da solo e che speravano di poter andare anche loro, prima o poi.

La Giordania è sicura, certo, e ovviamente bisogna avere certi accorgimenti. I turisti sono benvenuti e accolti con calore. E' una nazione stabile, la cui economia si basa esclusivamente sul turismo (non ha materie prime e non ha petrolio, come i suoi confinanti).

Cos’è che dà stabilità al Paese?

Il Re, Abdullah II di Giordania (che in occidente conosciamo come il marito di Rania, la bellissima Regina icona di stile) è adorato dal suo popolo. I motivi sono tanti, ma tutti coloro con cui ho parlato mi hanno confermato la stessa cosa: il Re è una brava persona. Il re giordano insieme alla regina e ai 4 figli, hanno trasferito la loro residenza in una parte di Amman molto povera. Rania e le figlie hanno la patente, sono laureate e portano avanti un modello di donna mediorientale moderna ma allo stesso tempo devota e religiosa. C’è povertà in Giordania? Sì, certo. La prima regola di un buon musulmano è dare ospitalità a tutti compreso ai bisognosi.

La situazione mediorientale

La Giordania come sai già è nel centro di una situazione drammatica. Confina con la Siria, l’Iraq, Israele e l’Arabia Saudita. Come fa a non essere pericolosa? Ancora una volta, il Re ci viene in soccorso. 

• Dopo la confisca da parte degli israeliani dei territori della Cisgiordania, centinaia di migliaia di palestinesi scapparono in Giordania, in cerca di un rifugio.

• Durante la guerra in Iraq: migliaia di iracheni in fuga dalla guerra, si ammassarono ai confini, in cerca di una via di fuga. Il re aprì i confini, dando loro riparo.

• Guerra in Siria: oltre un milione di donne e bambini si sono rifugiati al di là del confine in fuga dall’Isis, aiutati dai soldati giordani.

Polizia turistica

Se hai problemi di qualsiasi genere, non esitare a rivolgerti alla polizia turistica. 

È presente ovunque (a Petra c’è almeno in tre zone e gira a cavallo lungo il sito) e interviene con rapidità. Sono lì per aiutarti.

Una chicca per te: il canto del Muezzin di richiamo alla preghiera islamica è stato un momento davvero emozionante, quindi, se ti capiterà di trovarti sulla cima negli orari in cui sta per risuonare il canto (che ti ricordo avviene 5 volte al giorno, ossia all’alba, a mezzogiorno, nel pomeriggio, al tramonto e la sera), potrebbe valere la pena soffermarsi qualche minuto in più e godersi il momento.
