If you go there at noon or 4 p.m. (except Sundays), you can observe a cannon fired from the salute battery below. The cannons were traditionally used to protect the harbor from naval assaults, but later became a way to signal the exact time to ship captains, allowing them to recalibrate the chronographs on board. It is an alternative and fascinating experience for those in Valletta, offering a glimpse of the city's maritime history.
