Tidal bore rafting is a MUST on a Nova Scotia road trip. It's one of the funnest things we've ever done and is truly unforgettable. Think of it as white water rafting but on a tidal bore.

The Shubenacadie Tidal Bore Rafting Resort offers an exciting adventure for thrill-seekers and nature lovers looking to experience the world's highest tides where the Bay of Fundy meets the Shubenacadie River. As the only Indigenous-owned tidal bore rafting experience on the river, guests can connect with Mi'kmaq traditions and culture while splashing through waves and getting drenched with salty water.

You'll ride the waves of one of the world's largest tidal changes, see dozens of bald eagles, and smile until your face hurts. If you want, you can participate in mud-slide at the end of the trip (which was our favorite part).
Reserve in advance!! These do sell out and aren't available every day. The tour times + availability will vary based on the tidal chart. You can book a tour with a:

  • Normal tide (more like a scenic boat ride, not very thrilling)

  • High tide (in between the two, expect waves 2 - 4 ft high)

  • Extreme tide (waves upwards of 5 - 10 ft, very thrilling)

We booked an "extreme tide" day and loved it! The waves were as high as 8 - 10 feet at times, which was a thrilling experience, but also felt safe. I've heard the normal tide can be a bit boring at times, so try to book high or extreme tide if possible.

At the end of the ride, you'll pass by a mud hill where you can slide into the water, and put the mineral-rich mud on your face or body if desired. This was a blast!

*If you're going in fall, when it's cooler in the mornings you can request a cover. We asked for it, although it was not really needed. There are hot showers on site to rinse off after, so bring shampoo, soap, a brush and change of clothes.

🥾 Closed toe water shoes required. You can wear your own, OR you can just get old shoes left behind from past guests (what I did and we recommend). There are literally hundreds of pairs to choose from. Your shoes will get terribly muddy and likely ruined, so we recommend using theirs.
