The Sunday Rule Most Visitors Miss

Most shops in Vienna are closed on Sundays and public holidays, so do your main shopping from Monday to Saturday. If you need essentials on a Sunday, look at larger railway stations, the airport, selected museum shops and a small number of permitted outlets — but always check the current opening hours before making a special trip.

Restaurants, cafés, museums and attractions follow their own schedules, and many popular places close on a specific weekday rather than Sunday. Reserve special restaurants in advance and check each venue on the day you plan to visit.

My tip: make Sunday your slow-Vienna day — coffeehouse breakfast, a museum, a long walk and dinner somewhere you have already booked.
