Lava field covered in moss

Message from Elisa in Iceland

This lava field was created between 1783-1784 during the eruption that is known as the Skaftáreldar (The Skaftá River Fires).

This eruption caused a lot of harm in both Iceland and the rest of the world. In Iceland, it lead to disease, crop failure and disasters, but the ash also covered many parts of Euorope and caused problems for crops. It might even be one of the causes of the French Revolution (people lost their crops, got even poorer and in miserable conditions and started a revolution).

But now it is just a really pretty Lava field covered in moss. Remember not to step on the moss. It will take decades to recover.
