R.J. Hamer Arboretum is nestled in the Dandenong Ranges and is a great spot to set up a picnic, go for a walk or take photos amongst the picturesque trees you see right from the car park at Woolrich Lookout. The views from here overlook the Yarra Rangesl, Great Dividing Range and Silvan Dam in the distance - on a clear day this is pretty spectacular. In Autumn the trees turn red (well the sides of the trees that usually get sun on them) an create an even more magical experience as you weave your way through the maze of trees.
If you're looking for something a little bit more you can take the 5.5km circuit walk through the gardens to spot wildlife, tranquil lakes and over 150 species contains of exotic and deciduous trees.
PLEASE NOTE: If coming here with a dog be sure to stay within the arboretum's borders as dogs are not permitted in the surrounding national park.
