Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is the perfect day trip from Melbourne for snow play, with plenty of trails to explore, snowman to build, snow balls to throw and in the peak of winter, tobogganing and cross country skiing. We bought hot chocolates from the cafe, walked the snow covered trails and tried our best to make a snow man and loved every minute of it. Official snow season is usually at the start of June to the end of September but make sure you check their website for all the details.

Elise's Tips:

On rare occasions it sometimes snows just outside of the official snow season which means entry is still free and you can sometimes drive up to the resort without paying to see snow (carry snow chains if it is advised on their website). This is what happened to me in mid May of 2020 - just keep an eye on the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort Snow Cameras and the weather forescast before you dash out.
