Almost all the horse treks to Song Kul start in Kyzart, a small village about an hour away from Kochkor. The village is spread across two distinct parts, one is on the main road and the other is found just off the main road.
It is a traditional rural village with limited services, not really any shops, and a handful of guesthouses. While you don't have to stay here as part of any horse trek, you can if you prefer to be close to the starting point the night before your trek begins.
All guesthouses in Kyzart can also arrange a horse trek for you, so you could even arrive with nothing booked and organise it directly with the locals.
We chose to stay in Kyzart the day before our horse trek began. We stayed in a lovely guesthouse and met some great fellow travellers too.
How to get there? There is a daily marshrutka #541 going from Bishkek to Minkush. Be at the Bishkek Bus Station before 7am, as it leaves whenever full. Tell the driver you want to get out in Kyzart. If you stayed a night in Kochkor, then you'll find shared taxis throughout the day going to Kyzart. Otherwise, you can also book a private taxi too. Another option is hitchhiking (which is how we travelled from Kochkor to Kyzart).
Where to stay? There are several family guesthouses in the village where you'll get a bed, breakfast and dinner. We stayed at Nomad Place, which you can find a separate pin/entry for this.
