Jeti Oguz is a tiny village at the base of the famous red rock formations known as the Seven Bulls Rock and the Broken Heart Rock. It's about a 40-minute drive from Karakol so it's a perfect day trip from town.
The village was known in the past for its Soviet era Sanatorium which has been closed down for some time now. Still, it draws visitors for its incredibly unique rocky ridges and pretty valley where you can go on a gentle hike.
From the centre of the village you can see the famous Seven Bulls Rock as the road goes right under the rocks, however, it's best to head up to the viewpoint for an even better view. It's an easy 10-minute walk up to a designated lookout where you can take the famous photo.
How to get there? Marshrutka #372 leaves every half an hour from Karakol to Jeti Oguz, however, ensure you ask to be dropped in the furthest village known as Jeti Oguz Resort or Kurort
Longer day hike? You can also continue through the valley and walk for 6km to the Valley of Flowers, and then another hour further to reach the Devechi Kosi Waterfall. This is a decent hike, so if you want to get back to Karakol in a day, start early. Otherwise, there are yurt camps during summer in the valley where you can stay a night or pitch your tent.
