The Nagasaki Peace Statue: A Silent Prayer in Bronze
Each element of this iconic statue carries a profound message:
The Right Hand: Points to the sky, representing the threat of the atomic bomb.
The Left Hand: Extended horizontally, symbolizing eternal peace.
The Closed Eyes: A prayer for the souls of those lost in the tragedy.
The Folded Leg: Represents the profound stillness and silence immediately following the blast.
The Upright Leg: Symbolizes the strength of those who survived and the sanctity of life.

The tradition started with a young girl who survived the Hiroshima bombing. She folded them believing they would cure her leukemia, but she passed away at age 12.
