Japanese insight

A park built on a hill to remember the events of 1945 and to send a message of hope to the world.

The Nagasaki Peace Statue: A Silent Prayer in Bronze

Each element of this iconic statue carries a profound message:

  • The Right Hand: Points to the sky, representing the threat of the atomic bomb.

  • The Left Hand: Extended horizontally, symbolizing eternal peace.

  • The Closed Eyes: A prayer for the souls of those lost in the tragedy.

  • The Folded Leg: Represents the profound stillness and silence immediately following the blast.

  • The Upright Leg: Symbolizes the strength of those who survived and the sanctity of life.

The Tower of Paper Cranes

  • These cranes are folded by students during school "Peace Studies" programs to pray for peace. You might see group of students on weekday

  • The tradition started with a young girl who survived the Hiroshima bombing. She folded them believing they would cure her leukemia, but she passed away at age 12.

Peace statue from the world

Statues from all over the world are displayed here, each carrying a prayer for peace.

You might even find one gifted from your own country. (Thank you!)

Fountain of Peace, dedicated to those who desperately sought water after the bombing.
