Hands down, Fonda Lo Que Hay was the best place we ate at in Panama City. Its a bit fancy, but not over the top and looks totally awesome inside the restaurant vintage but grundgey — and the fact that Anthony Bourdain ate here just adds to the legend. The vibe is super casual and busy with locals, which always tells you you’re in the right place.
The food is authentic Panamanian comfort food done to perfection. Every dish we tried was packed with flavour, fresh, and genuinely delicious — from hearty meats to classic sides. But the item you have to order is the famous shaved ice dessert. It’s cool, sweet, refreshing, and the perfect way to finish a filling meal; locals and visitors alike rave about it for a reason.
Prices are a bit expensive but totally worth it, usually around 20 USD per plate. If you’re in Panama City and want a real taste of local cuisine that’s tasty and genuinely memorable, Fonda Lo Que Hay is an absolute must‑visit.
