Best areas to stay in Malaga

Málaga has several great neighbourhoods depending on what kind of trip you’re planning. If it’s your first time visiting, these are the areas we’d recommend looking at.

Historic Centre (Centro Histórico)

This is the heart of Málaga and where most visitors stay. You’ll be surrounded by tapas bars, restaurants, museums and historic streets.

It’s the best area if you want to be able to walk everywhere, especially if food is a big part of your trip.

Just keep in mind it can be lively at night, especially on weekends.

Soho

Just south of the historic centre, Soho has a slightly more modern, creative vibe. It’s known for street art, independent cafés and cool cocktail bars.

You’re still only 5–10 minutes walk from the centre, but it feels a bit calmer.

Pedregalejo

If you prefer staying near the sea, Pedregalejo is a great choice. It’s an old fishing neighbourhood known for its beach restaurants and relaxed atmosphere.

This is where you’ll find some of the best chiringuitos (beach seafood restaurants) in the area.

It’s about 15–20 minutes from the centre by bus.

El Palo

A little further along the coast from Pedregalejo, El Palo feels even more local and authentic. It’s famous for traditional seafood restaurants and grilled sardines cooked over open fires.

It’s perfect if you want a more local Málaga experience.
