Almdorf Fane Alm – also known as Malga Fane, is a charming alpine village nestled in the Pfunderer Mountains of South Tyrol.

I recently discovered Almdorf Fane Alm, and it quickly became one of my favorite mountain villages in the Dolomites. This traditional alpine village is surrounded by stunning views and nature, and it’s perfect for hiking or simply relaxing in a peaceful environment.

Getting There

The road to Fane Alm is quite narrow and is closed to cars from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the summer (during winter is the road closed). So, you’ll need to either drive up early in the morning or in the evening, or take the shuttle bus from the parking down for about 3€. If you prefer a bit of exercise, you can even hike up from the parking lot at the base, but keep in mind it’s quite a long walk!

What to Do

  • Hiking: There are some amazing trails right from the village, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

  • Local Cuisine: I highly recommend trying the traditional Tyrolean food at one of the local huts.

  • Photography: The place is really beautiful and I love the authentic cabins. I was a bit too late last year to catch larches at their peak, but I’ll definitely be coming back next autumn to see them in full color.

Best Time to Visit

Autumn is the best time, with the golden larches, but it’s beautiful in late spring and summer as well.
