What to expect
Zhangjiajie is all about vertical scale and depth, thousands of sandstone pillars rising out of forests, often wrapped in mist or low cloud. Visibility shifts constantly, which creates natural cinematic reveals. When the clouds sit low, the landscape feels surreal and otherworldly, especially from elevated viewpoints.
How to get there
• Fly into Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport (DYG)
• 45–60 min drive to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
• Internal shuttle buses connect all major viewpoints
• Cable cars and elevators provide access to elevated areas
• Enter via the Yangjiajie Entrance to beat the crowds as most people enter from the main entrance
Best time to shoot
• Season: April–June, Sept–Nov
• Time: Early morning for fog and layered depth, late afternoon for light breaks
Highlight
• Book a private driver to get you to the park for sunrise
