Vienna is straight-up stunning—think imperial palaces, cosy coffee spots, and some of the best classical music vibes you’ll ever feel. But before you rock up in Austria’s capital, here’s a few things I wish I knew first.

1. German’s the Go-To Language

People are super friendly and a lot speak English, but learning a couple of words in German goes a long way. Even just saying “Danke” (thanks!) or “Hallo” gets you a smile.

2. It’s Crazy Clean and Super Safe

Legit one of the cleanest cities I’ve ever been to. You can walk around late at night and feel totally chill. Everything runs like clockwork—especially the public transport.

3. Carry Some Cash

Vienna’s modern but some small cafes and bakeries still prefer cash.

4. Sundays = Super Quiet

Shops take Sundays seriously. Most of them are shut, so stock up on snacks the day before. But hey, it’s a good excuse to slow down—go to a museum or chill in a park.

5. Tipping Is a Thing

Nothing major—just round up the bill or leave like 5–10%. Hand it to the person directly instead of leaving it on the table. It’s just the done thing.

6. Trains, Trams, and All That

The public transport is mint. Super easy to get around. Grab a 24 or 48-hour pass and you’re set. Just make sure you validate your ticket or you could cop a fine.

8. Vienna’s Not Just for Winter

Yes, the Christmas markets are epic, but don’t sleep on summer here. Outdoor cafes, open-air concerts, lazy walks by the river—it hits different.

Final Thought:
Vienna is honestly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. From strolling the quiet streets to standing in front of insane buildings that look straight out of a painting—you’ll be blown away by the elegance and charm this city gives off. It’s got that kind of beauty that just hits different.
