Ha Ling Peak, located near Canmore, Alberta, is a great hike. It is 7.4km over 763 meters elevation gain. It is essentially straight up, it is a grind. The peak was originally named Chinaman's Peak in 1896 after a Chinese cook successfully climbed it in under 10 hours as part of a bet. However, the name was changed to Ha Ling Peak in 1980 to be more respectful. It offers a challenging yet rewarding hike with panoramic vistas of the surrounding area. It is an amazing hike for sunrise. I would only do it in the summer and fall months as there is a risk for avalanche here in the winter and spring.
