Gljúfrasteinn is a writer's home museum in Iceland, which was the former residence of Halldór Kiljan Laxness-the 1955 Nobel Prize winner for Literature. The house was built in 1945 by Halldór and his wife near the river Kaldakvísl in Mosfellsbær, an area with close ties to Laxness's childhood home. Gljúfrasteinn became a cultural hub for Icelandic society and after Laxness won the Nobel Prize; important foreign guests were welcomed into his home. Music concerts frequently took place in his living room. It has been open to the public since 2004, when Auður Sveinsdóttir sold it to the Icelandic state. Today, visitors can take a guided tour through the house and during summer months, enjoy a concert.
