Bixby Bridge, also known as Bixby Creek Bridge, is a picturesque reinforced concrete arch bridge on the magnificent Big Sur Coast of California along Highway 1. It is the highest single-span arch bridge in the world and one of the most photographed bridges in the US. Upon its completion in 1932, it was the longest concrete arch span on the California State Highway System, stretching 714 feet (218 metres). The aesthetically pleasing design includes tall spandrel columns, architectural piers and an open-spandrel arch bridge which provides 260 feet (79 metres) of clearance below. The bridge required 45,000 sacks of cement and took two months to build the falsework alone! It's an impressive feat of engineering and stands as a testament to let visitors explore the beauty of leftover nature waiting around the corner past this breathtaking structure.
