Getting around Fiji

Fiji

There are LOTS of different ways to get around Fiji, but you will need to have your wits about you...

Bus - local buses will get you into town and back for a dollar or two. Ask a local how much, so you can have the right change for the driver. These are usually old vehicles, don't have windows and will be blasting their music.

Express bus - are minibuses. These will go to major towns and cities as soon as they can fill all the seats. Often $10+ depending how far you go.

Long distance bus - are coaches. Often with air conditioning (not always) and will go from Nadi to Suva etc. Around $15+ depending on how far you go.

Airport Taxi - yellow vehicles. These cars have to have their meter on for your journey, but will sometimes take you the long way to increase your fare. Turn on Google maps so you can track if they're going the most direct route.

Private car - usually recommended by friends or family. You will negotiate your fare before starting your journey.

Transfer - Sometimes available free with your accommodation. Otherwise, prearranged with a set price.

Hire a vehicle - After getting ripped off my a few rental places, I only use Bakers Rentals now. He's a good and honest man who can negotiate a better deal on all vehicles for a longer stay.
