Talk about learning Japanese closing times the hard way! We showed up at Hokokuji Temple too late and had to settle for pressing our noses against the gate. Total rookie move, but at least it taught us to double-check closing times for the rest of the trip!

From what we could glimpse (and what made us extra bummed about missing it), this place looks like a perfect zen escape. They call it the "Bamboo Temple" for good reason - it's got this intimate bamboo grove that's supposed to feel more personal than some of the more famous ones. The traditional tea house where you can sip matcha while gazing at the bamboo forest sounds like exactly the kind of peaceful moment you hope to find in Kamakura.

Unlike some of the bigger, more crowded temples in Kamakura, this one's tucked away in the hills, making it feel like a real discovery. Definitely going on the "must-visit" list for next time - just, you know, earlier in the day!
