Before you arrive in Indonesia
Things you must prepare
Han travels
Indonesia
1. Visa & Entry
Most nationalities get Visa on Arrival (VOA) — IDR 500k, valid 30 days, extendable once.
Apply e-VOA online (recommended) to skip airport lines.
2. Money
Bring a fee-free debit/credit card (Wise/Revolut works great).
ATMs are everywhere; avoid currency exchange kiosks at airports.
Cash needed for warungs, small ferries, markets.
3. SIM & Connectivity
Buy Telkomsel or XL at the airport or in town (cheaper).
eSIMs work fine—Airalo/Holafly have good coverage.
4. Health & Safety
Avoid tap water; use bottled or refill stations.
Bring mosquito repellent + sunscreen (strong sun, dengue areas).
Travel insurance that covers scooters is a must.
5. Transport
For cities: Grab/Gojek apps for taxis and food.
For islands: ferries can be slow—leave buffer time.
If renting a scooter, international driving permit is required.
6. Culture
Dress modestly in rural areas, temples, mosques.
Use your right hand for giving/receiving.
Bargaining is normal in markets, not in malls.
7. Apps to Download
Grab / Gojek
Maps.me (offline maps)
Traveloka (flights, ferries, hotels)
8. Climate & Packing
Lightweight clothing, rain jacket, sandals + closed shoes.
Power plug: Type C/F, 230V.
Bring a dry bag for boat trips.
