Description:
Reykjadalur, meaning “Steam Valley,” is a beautiful geothermal area near the town of Hveragerði. It’s most famous for its natural hot river, where visitors can soak while surrounded by mountains and steaming vents. The hike to the hot river is about 3 km (2 miles) each way, taking 45–60 minutes. Along the way, you’ll see bubbling mud pools, fumaroles, and colorful geothermal landscapes. At the top, there are wooden boardwalks along the river where you can find a warm spot to bathe. It’s a truly unique Icelandic experience that combines hiking, nature, and relaxation.

Price:
The hike and hot river are free to visit. Parking at the trailhead costs about 500 ISK ($4 USD). Guided tours from Reykjavík that include the hike and river typically cost around $90–120 USD per person.

⚠️ Caution: The 1-hour hike to the hot river is open in winter but often snowy and icy. Wear microspikes and warm clothes; conditions can be challenging.
