Henley-in-Arden is one of those places that feels like a little hidden treasure – full of character, charm, and completely doable on a budget.

The high street is packed with gorgeous old buildings and independent shops, but the real highlight? Henley Ice Cream it’s been around since 1934 and it’s properly good. They even cater for vegan and diabetic diets, so no one misses out. Cones start from about £2.80… which basically still counts as a free day out, right?

Just a short wander from town, we found the dreamiest little paddling spot hidden in the trees (find it at ///surfer.cultivation.decorator)

And the best part? It backs right onto a brilliant play area with two separate wooden play structures and picnic benches; ideal for letting the kids run wild while you tuck into your sandwiches.

If you’re up for a bit of exploring, don’t miss the free heritage museum on the high street – it’s small but packed with interactive bits like dressing up, old-fashioned classroom desks and vintage weighing scales. A proper hit with curious kids.

Park for free at Prince Harry’s Car Park and make a full day of it.

Ice cream optional. But highly recommended.
