The Devil’s Golf Course is a salt pan located in Death Valley National Park. It is so named because of the large halite salt crystal formations that leave an abrasively rough terrain - as if it were created especially to challenge golfers! Set beneath the Panamint Mountains and spanning over a mile, this remarkable landscape is the result of the drying up of Lake Manly 3000 years ago. The salt on the floor was left behind when the lake evaporated, with evaporation in Death Valley occurring at a much higher rate than that of precipitation. This combined with intense chemical weathering and hydrothermal alteration has produced a wonderful array of colours seen in the rock formations, adding to the beauty of the area.
