I highly recommend a visit to Dovrefjell National Park! It’s famous for the musk oxen that live there. You can try your luck spotting them on your own or join a guided safari tour.

If you decide to explore independently, follow the Musk Ox Trail. Park on the roadside in Kongsvoll. From there, the trail—well marked and separated from the E6 by a gate—leads toward Høgsnyta. I was lucky enough to see several musk oxen—truly an unforgettable experience!

Important: Always keep several hundred meters distance! Musk oxen can attack if they feel threatened. Bringing binoculars or a good zoom camera is highly recommended.

Besides musk oxen, you also have good chances to spot moose here.
