Byodo-in Temple, located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan is a breathtaking Buddhist temple built during the late Heian period. It dates back to 998 and stands as one of the nationally designated Historic Sites and Places of Scenic Beauty. The most famous building within the temple is the Phoenix Hall, completed in 1053 and containing an image of Amida Buddha. This building was designated as a National Treasure in 1951 and is also featured on the reverse of the Japanese 10 yen coin. The temple also holds other treasures and features such as the Jōdo-shiki garden, Kannon-do Hall, Yorin-an Shoin Residence, Hoshokan Museum, and Byodoin Tea Salon Toka. It is a stunning representation of the cultural and religious history throughout Japan and its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site provides plenty of reasons for tourists to explore and see the beauty of this ancient temple.
