What to order:

Order the classic bánh xèo. You’ll get a large, crispy turmeric pancake filled with pork and shrimp, served with heaps of fresh herbs and rice paper to wrap everything up. Dip it generously into the fish sauce, that’s where all the flavour comes together.

Why it’s here:

This is a very popular spot and it’s listed the Michelin Guide, so it’s a solid introduction to Southern-style bánh xèo in Hanoi. While we personally preferred the smaller, more local place where the owner showed us how to eat it, this one is still worth including. You can watch them cooking the pancakes right at the entrance, which adds to the experience.

Tip:

Go with an empty stomach, the portions are big and very filling. Sit inside rather than rushing takeaway, bánh xèo is best eaten fresh while it’s still hot and super crisp. Take your time wrapping it properly, it’s a hands-on dish and part of the fun.
