The Beehive Tombs of Al-Ayn are among Oman’s most important archaeological sites. These tombs date back to around 3,000 BCE, making them OLDER than the Egyptian pyramids of Giza!

Each tomb was used as a collective grave. To this day, historians don’t fully understand why so many were built in this region, or what exact beliefs surrounding death existed at the time.

Seeing them scattered across the landscape feels almost surreal, especially with the beautiful Jebel Misht as a backdrop.

How to Find Them:

They can be a bit tricky to locate. I parked in front of a house in the village of Al Ayn (see picture):

From there:

  • Walk through two palm plantations (you’ll pass two open gates)

  • Continue toward the tombs (visible in the distance)

  • Hike up a short rocky section

There are no clear signs, so allow some extra time.
