Step into a cinematic marvel—this 1893 Italian–Renaissance-Revival landmark starts modest from the street, but inside reveals a dramatic five-story skylit atrium filled with marble staircases, delicate cast‑iron railings, and golden light that dances off every surface. A beloved backdrop in film—most famously Blade Runner—it radiates a slightly steampunk, sci‑fi charm. Restoration in the early 1990s secured its place as a National Historic Landmark.

Public access is free and open daily, but limited to the ground floor and first landing. Unfortunately, "large cameras with interchangeable lenses" and tripods are not allowed—only smartphones or small compact cameras are permitted. This is a real shame, given how photogenic the space is.

I find the symmetry of its “bird‑cage” elevators and ornate catwalks mesmerizing—truly a sensory feast for architectural photography. For best results, shoot during the day when the skylight floods the space, creating dynamic shadows and ethereal glow through the wrought‑iron details.
