New Chums Lookout is a hidden gem near Whangapoua on the Coromandel Peninsula and one of the most photographed places in the country. The views are INCREDIBLE, and when you reach the top, you'll get 360-degree views over New Chums Beach, native bush, and endless coastline.
On your way to the beach, turn right at the fork, and you’ll find the start of the track. It’s a steep climb and there's a bit of free-climbing to reach the top, so I recommend visiting the beach first to set up and then heading up to the viewpoint.
Personal note: Because the track is uneven, I recommend wearing good,s turdy footwear. In saying that, however, I have seen people hiking barefoot!
