How to Get There:
Your journey begins at the very end of Torvagøta road, through the village of Vatnsoyrar. Parking can be a bit tricky here, as there are no designated lots, so plan ahead and park considerately.

From there, head into the open valley following the trail to the lake. While there’s no marked trail from the lake, the route is relatively straightforward. The hike takes a few hours in total, with your first major landmark being Lake Fjallavatn — a large, peaceful lake nestled among the hills. Stick to the right side as you continue along it.

Beyond the lake, follow the Reipsá River as the valley begins to open up. To your left, you’ll see a dramatic black sand coastline stretching toward the horizon. Straight ahead, the river suddenly drops into a deep gorge, forming the powerful Reipsáfossur Waterfall. As the water crashes into the rocks below, it sends mist into the air — a stunning contrast between the calm river and the raw power of the Atlantic just beyond.
