Il Monastero Songzanlin (松赞林寺 – Sōngzànlín Sì), fondato nel 1679 dal V Dalai Lama, è il più grande monastero tibetano dello Yunnan ed è classificato AAAAA (5A). Situato a soli 5 km da Shangri-La, è conosciuto come il “Piccolo Potala” per la sua somiglianza con il Potala Palace di Lhasa.

Il complesso ospita circa 700 monaci e conserva un ricco patrimonio di statue dorate, affreschi, thangka e manoscritti buddhisti. Le costruzioni principali, con i loro tetti dorati, dominano la valle e si riflettono in un suggestivo lago paludoso ai piedi del monastero.

The Songzanlin Monastery (松赞林寺 – Sōngzànlín Sì), founded in 1679 by the Fifth Dalai Lama, is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan and rated AAAAA (5A). Located just 5 km from Shangri-La, it is often called the “Little Potala Palace” for its resemblance to Lhasa’s Potala.

Home to about 700 monks, the monastery preserves a vast collection of golden statues, murals, thangkas, and sacred scriptures. Its golden-roofed halls dominate the valley and reflect beautifully in the marshy lake below.

✨ Tip: visit early morning to hear monks chanting prayers, or at sunset when the golden roofs glow in the evening light.
