An Khê is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression, even though it’s a bit "strange" at first. This small fishing village, dating back to the 16th century, is packed with rich history and was actually quite active during the Vietnam War, playing a significant role in the country’s liberation movement.

What makes it even more interesting is that, despite being inland, An Khê is still known as a fishing village. Locals fish in the lakes, rivers, and streams surrounding the village, which is something we found unique. Joen and I made a little detour from a temple exploration to visit An Khê, and it turned out to be a really cool experience. We were lucky to meet a local who spoke English and was more than happy to share some of the village’s history with us, which really brought the place to life.

The village offers a glimpse into traditional Vietnamese culture, and while it’s not a spot for everyone, if you’re into history and culture, it’s worth the visit. We enjoyed trying some local food and soaking in the peaceful yet historically rich vibe of the area. It was a long day, but a fascinating one, and we’d recommend it to those with a deep interest in Vietnam’s past.
